A terminally ill man wedded the love of his life on the day he died.

Nick Glover was able to fulfil his final wish to marry his fiancée after hospital staff arranged a last-minute wedding

He had planned to marry his partner Jo in June this year after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018.

But when his condition deteriorated on Sunday, April 28, the pair decided to bring the wedding forward - and tied the knot that day.

The 51-year-old was transported in his hospital bed to the chapel at Wigan Infirmary for the ceremony, reports the Manchester Evening News .

The Macmillian Palliative Care Team organised for the catering team to provide a buffet for guests.

Despite his condition, Nick was able to read his own vows.

Following the touching ceremony, the couple went to the Lowton Ward where they were greeted by staff throwing confetti.

Later that night, Nick passed away surrounded by loved ones.

His widow Jo, from Halsall, near Ormskirk, said: "All of the staff went above and beyond. With any difficulty that we came across in organising the wedding at such short notice, there was always someone there to support us.”

To thank hospital staff for her special day, Jo has donated her wedding decorations to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

It means other patients can decorate the chapel for their own ceremonies.

She gave the trust electric candles, dream catchers and light up frames, in a storage box.

On the box was a plaque saying: "Kindly donated with love from Nick and Jo Glover.”

Jo said: “It felt right to bring the items in to show our appreciation for all that everybody had done.

"I just know that Nick would be made up with what we’ve done.

“Everything just came together on that particular day, Nick’s sister was in the area attending a party from her home down South, so she was able to come to the wedding, and his best man, Chris, was on his way home from a trip to Scotland and made it just in time.

“I’m just so thankful to everyone at the hospital who helped us and gave Nick his final wish."

More than £1,500 has been donated to cancer charity Macmillan in Nick's memory.

Wigan Infirmary chaplain Caroline Tracey said: "The Chaplaincy and Palliative Care Team are very grateful for the donation. We are overwhelmed with what Jo has given to us for any other couples who may get married whilst in hospital.”
