Exam procedure: Exams conducted by UPSC has three phases i.e, preliminary, mains and interview. Where preliminary is objective based and its result is a qualification for main similarly mains result will decide you will be eligible for the interview or not.

SSC also conducts exam in three phase: preliminary, main and personality test (interview) but the major difference is in the way of calculation of marks for result i.e, in UPSC the preliminary exam marks were not counted in final result whereas in SSC exams the merit list has resulted on the bases of total marks gained throughout the paper.
