There may be a lot of things you’d associate with Rahul Gandhi but his choice of sneakers? Nah, don’t think so, right? After all, the man has almost always stuck to his signature attire of kurta-pyjama, choosing to focus more on his political moves than his style ones. Politicians in India aren’t known to be style savvy and the President of the Indian National Congress hasn’t been an exception to the unsaid rule either. But before you could give up for good on the chances of RaGa ever pulling off anything close to a style statement, lo and behold, the man in question recently upped his game and how.
At a recently conducted town hall with the students and teachers of Chennai’s Stella Maris College – the exact one where he urged people to not address him as Rahulji – Rahul Gandhi made sure we couldn’t ignore two specific things – firstly, his clothes for he was wearing a polo t-shirt with straight-fit denims instead of his usual choice of attire. And secondly, his choice of footwear. Or more specifically, his fly-as-hell sneakers.
The sneaks in question aren’t just about any pair – he was wearing ASICS’ Gel-Kayano 23 no less. Now, those are some really sic shoes. For anyone who knows sneakers would know that Kayanos are some of the most iconic shoes not just from ASICS but in the larger sneaker world in general. First manufactured for the ‘serious high-mileage runner’, the shoes were named after Mr. Kayano who developed the technology that allowed for better support for runners. Obviously, they’re also one of ASICS’ most popular shoes. Who knew Rahul Gandhi was a sneakerhead, right?
Safe to say, this has been one uber cool style mood from the Rahul Gandhi. With the upcoming general elections, are we being too hopeful if we’re hoping for more such style moves from the man? We live in hope.
