Google Pixel 4 is coming! Google has announced that it is hosting a Made by Google event in the New York City on October 15. At its upcoming hardware event, Google is expected to launch the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones along with the Nest Mini smart speaker and the Pixelbook 2. While Google hasn't specified anything yet, its invite states that it will showcase 'a few new things' at the event.
The highlight of the show is going to be the Pixel 4 smartphones which, as Google has already revealed in the image that it 'leaked' almost three months back, will mark the company's premium budget smartphones departing from their conventional single camera setup for the very first time. The Pixel 4 smartphones are likely to come with a dual-rear camera setup and a host of sensors in the front to support some really cool features such as the motion gestures and face unlock - features that have already been confirmed by the company in a blog post last month.
When it comes to its Pixel 4 smartphones, Google has played a game of hide and seek with the Pixel lovers. It has shared just the right amount of details that would keep the Pixel fans and tech lovers hooked to its upcoming premium budget smartphone. However, the never-ending stream of rumours and leaks have revealed a lot...when I say a lot, I mean almost everything...about the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones. Of course, those leaked images and videos don't stand a chance without Google's acknowledgement. Yet, thanks to these leaked images and videos we have a fair idea of what to expect when Google launches Pixel 4 smartphones next month.
Here is everything that we know about the Google Pixel 4 smartphones:
What Google has confirmed
Google as I said before has already confirmed a number of key details about its upcoming premium budget smartphones. The company has shared an image and a video of its Pixel 4 smartphone in which it has revealed some key features that will be available on Pixel 4 smartphones. Here's what Google has confirmed:
-- Google Pixel 4 smartphones will come with dual rear camera setup. This camera setup will be housed inside a square shaped camera module.
-- The Pixel 4 image shared by Google back in June also confirmed that Pixel 4 smartphones will not come with a fingerprint sensor at the back - marking a stark diversion from the design trend that the company has followed in the three generation of its premium budget smartphones.
-- The image also confirmed that Pixel 3 successor with come with a single tone glass design instead of featuring the dual tone design.
-- The video shared by the company reavealed a bunch of things. For starters, the Pixel 4 smartphones will not come with a notch. Instead, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones will come with a thick bezel on top that would house a single front camera setup, ambient light and proximity sensors, IR sensors and couple of other sensors that would aid the phone in unlocking the phone. It will come with a thin chin and slim bezels on the sides.
-- The Pixel 4 smartphones will come with face unlock feature and a new Motion Sense technology, which is powered by the company's Soli radar chip, that would allow users to perform tasks such as skip a song or reject a phone call by waving their hands. This feature, however, would not be available in all the countries.
-- The Pixel 4 smartphones will come with Google's Titan M chip for security and privacy.
-- The Pixel 4 smartphones will run on Android 10 mobile operating system.
What we ALMOST know
There are things that have been confirmed about the Pixel 4 smartphones by Google, there are things that have not been confirmed by Google, then there are things that we almost know. What does it mean? Check this out:
-- Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 is the processor of the year. A number of the premium budget smartphones such as the OnePlus 7 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 feature Snapdragon 855 in the core. Pixel 4 smartphones are expected to come with Snapdragon 855 chipset.
-- Google back at Google I/0 2019 announced the Google Assistant 2.0 that would run locally on the Pixel phones. Google at the time had suggested that the next generation Google Assistant would be available on new Pixel phones later this year. This means that we should see Pixel 4 smartphones running on a locally running Google Assistant.
What rumours say
There are some features that have been confirmed by Google. Then there are other features that have been touted by the torrent of leaked images, videos and other reports in the past. Here is what the rumours are suggesting:
-- In addition to the conventional black and white, the Google Pixel 4 smartphones are expected to be available in a Coral coloured variant. Leaked hands on video show that the new Pixel phones will come with a black chassis and a neon coloured power button
-- Leaked images also indicate that the camera module that will house the rear camera setup will be dark - unlike in case of the iPhone 11 series. The Pixel 3 successors are likely to come with a 12MP primary lens and 16MP telephoto lens. Some reports also suggest that the Pixel 4 XL is likely to come with a third camera at the back.
-- As far as the camera capabilities are concerned, users, as per a leaked promo video will be able to use the Pixel 4 smartphones for astro-photography.
-- In terms of the memory, the Pixel 4 smartphones will come with a bigger 6GB RAM. Reports stay disputed about the storage space. While some suggest that the phones will come with 128GB internal memory, others indicate 64GB storage space.
-- The Pixel 4 smartphones are likely to get a smarter display. Reports indicate that while Pixel 4 will come with a 5.7-inch OLED display with a screen resolution of 1440x3030 pixels, Pixel 4 XL will get a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1440x3030 pixels. The two phones will come with a Smooth Display feature that would enable users to switch from a 60Hz display to a 90Hz display using a toggle switch in the phone's display settings.
-- Lastly, the Pixel 4 smartphones are likely to get a slightly bigger battery than their predecessors. While Pixel 4 is likley to come with a 2,800mAh battery, the Pixel 4 XL is expected to come with a 3,700mAh battery.
