South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis just cannot get rid of questions related to his former skipper and teammate AB de Villiers in the ongoing World Cup. The entire cricketing fraternity is busy talking about de Villiers ever since the revelation that he had offered to play for the Proteas in the World Cup. De Villiers announced his retirement from international cricket last year.
However, just 24 hours before South Africa were about to announce their final World Cup squad, he approached the team-management to express his desire of playing for the team. However, the offer from de Villiers was duly rejected. Faf du Plessis has now opened up about the phone call that de Villiers made to make the offer.

Du Plessis said he received a call from his former teammate, requesting his international comeback during the IPL but by then the selectors had already finalised the squad for the World Cup 2019.
“It was just a conversation, a phone call the night before the team got announced,” du Plessis was quoted as saying by cricketworldcup.com. “It was just a ‘this is what I’m feeling’ (phone call).
“I said to him, ‘I think it is too late but I will check in with the coach and the selectors the next morning.’ When I spoke to the coach and the selectors, they all agreed that it was way, way too late to change the team on 99.99,” he added.

South Africa, nonetheless, are having a disastrous World Cup. They have lost their opening three games of the tournament while the fourth one was washed out on Monday. With just a solitary point from the first four games, South Africa need to win all their remaining six games to stand a chance of making it to the next stage. They will next take on Afghanistan.
