Delhi BJP website hacked, beef menu pics on display

NEW DELHI: While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers were busy in the swearing in ceremony at the majestic courtyard of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the website of the Delhi BJP was hacked on Thursday with hackers posting pictures of beef and beef menu at its website.

The navigation bar on the homepage of the Delhi BJP website was replaced with word “beef” for different categories of subjects. The beef recipes were accompanied with a message: Hacked by ‘Shadow_V1P3R’.

The homepage of the website showed the picture of a beef dish with ‘Beef Fry’ written under it. Under the image, a beef recipe was posted in blue font against a black background.

Surprisingly, a majority of the Delhi BJP leaders were unaware about the hacking of its website as most of its IT cell leaders and volunteers were present at the Rashtrapati Bhawan to attend the swearing in ceremony.

A senior party leader told this newspaper that no extra effort to secure the website was taken despite knowing that few months ago central website of the party was hacked and it took several days to restore it. No immediate reaction was available from the party leaders most of whom were attending the swearing in ceremony.

Delhi BJP IT cell incharge Pratyush Kant said: “We have taken cognisance of the matter. The site has been brought down for taking corrective measures. We will get down to the bottom of it and ascertain how it happened and who all are responsible for hacking our site.”

Later on, a message was displayed on the website: “We’ll be back soon! Sorry for the inconvenience but we’re performing some maintenance at the moment. We’ll be back online shortly!”
