The actor is today celebrating his 75th birthday. But he got life again by defeating death many times in his life. Yes, while shooting for Coolie in 1982 the actor had a near death experience.
1982 Coolie accident
During the shoot of ‘Coolie’ in Bangalore, he was seriously injured in a fight scene with Star Punit Issar. Myasthenia Gravis, an ailment which struck him after the fatal accident, the disease makes one feel weak and the person keeps dropping his head but he was able to recover as it was in remission state. He was admitted in ICU. The doctors and his family had lost hopes as his breathing gets stopped for about 15 minutes. But like a miracle he came back. He got a new life. That year, the whole of India prayed for Amitabh’s life.
After coolie incident, Amitabh used to get sick. During that time, he had consumed so much medicines that he had a disease of Neuromuscular Element. During that time, he was unable to stand straight. At the same time, he had decided that he would no longer do films, but after the insistence of friend Tinnu Anand, he had completed the shooting of ‘Shahanshah’.
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan some years back suffers from liver cirrhosis even though he doesn’t drink alcohol. Amitabh met with the accident during one of the action scenes in the film Coolie. His surgery required a lot of blood. The urgency of its administration propelled several volunteers to come forward. Two hundred people donated blood and 60 bottles of blood were collected and injected into him. But, this caused the problem. It was also an unknown hepatitis in 1982 and there were, perhaps due to the urgency of the matter, no known immediate tests to ascertain its existence before it was administered. So it went into his system, festered and attacked his liver. Owing to this problem, the 67-year-old actor has to get himself monitored on a regular basis.
Breathlessness and Stomach pain
On October 11, 2008 Bachchan suffered breathlessness and stomach pain and went off to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai for a checkup. The history hit him again. He was taken to the Lilavati Hospital for treatment, where he was immediately admitted. After many days, he had returned and today Amitabh is celebrating 75th birthday like Mukaddar’s Sikandar.
Amithabh is a prime example of someone being pegged back repeatedly in life, personal and professional, and yet he fought back. He is a perfect role model for us all, not only to the ones who want to become movie stars, but also for the rest of us to extrapolate the learnings and wear the same attitude to fight adversities in our own lives.
We wish the actor a very happy birthday!
